GET DIRECTIONS

Koosharem Guard Station was one of a series of remote cabins rangers used to manage the forest resource. Oldham, an old time ranger stationed in Monroe, would leave on Monday morning and ride clockwise around the mountain staying one night in each of the stations, which were spaced a day’s horseback ride apart. Only two of the guard stations Oldham used still remain—Koosharem and Dry Creek. It would take Oldham five or six days to make the loop. He’d do his paperwork and homely duties on Saturday and Sunday, and then he’d make the trip again on Monday, going counter clockwise around Monroe Mountain. Part of the trail he used has been found and restored and is called the Oldham Trail.

The site provides visitors with more information and a walk and peek around the old Koosharem Guard Station.
